We are still buzzing from the energy at our inaugural Allies in Energy Executive Forum held yesterday (February 26th, 2020)! You could feel the excitement in the room throughout the entire event – especially when the conversations about our industry and inclusion were happening.
The dialogue that happened not only focused on female representation and leadership in organizations but diversity within organizations and how we, as individuals, can change the status quo. By the end of the conversation it felt as if there was a call to arms for each of us to take responsibility to fight for more equal representation of genders within organizations and to further support our energy industry.
One memorable moment we would like to highlight was when Jiong Zheng, from LNG Canada, quoted Margaret Thatcher. She stated, “When you want something said ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” The room roared in applause, and you could hear our attendees’ delight from this statement. This quote is also a testament to the production of our Allies in Energy event. We are women who “got something done” by bringing our industry peers together to have this important dialogue. But this event could not have happened without our speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees.
Thank you to our moderator and panelists from LNG, DirectHer Network, and Canada: Powered by Women for sharing your unique perspectives on shifting the paradigm of diversity and carving out a new path forward. It was a great afternoon of speakers sharing their knowledge, strategies and experiences on how to accelerate positive organizational changes and professional development as well as connecting with industry peers.
We would also like to thank our Platinum Sponsor LNG Canada; our Gold Sponsors MasTec Canada, Steel River Group, Axia FiberNet, Steel Reef Infrastructure Corp., and Stratus Electrical & Instrumentation; and our Sponsorship Allies Scovan and Barrier Group. Without your generous sponsorship we would not be able to put on this event. Thank you!
Thank you to our organizers and volunteers for taking the time from your busy schedules to help put together this event and at the event. Volunteers are so important for event planning and execution.
We would like to further thank the Calgary Petroleum Club for hosting our event. As always, it was a great venue with superb staff and service.
And most importantly we would like to thank all our attendees for coming out and sharing this day with us – especially the Calgary Women in Energy members. We are so proud we were able to sell out this event so quickly. We hope you took away some great insights and knowledge and made some new industry connections.
Although our event has concluded it does not mean the conversation does. There were still many questions from our audience that our panelists could not answer due to time constraints. Calgary Women in Energy will be continuing the conversation on our LinkedIn page by posing these questions. Follow us on LinkedIn to join in on the conversation.
Thank you again to all our Allies in Energy. We look forward to hosting this event again next year! Stay tuned.
